Honoring Edvard Munch’s Wondrous Works
Stressless has always been a brand to honor the classics. We love to give credit where credit is due and respect those who came before us. With this in mind, we are extremely excited about the Edvard Munch Museum, opening very soon in—you guessed it—Oslo, Norway!
The New Edvard Munch Museum, opening October 22, will feature the works of the storied painter. On the website, the museum describes itself as “a vibrant art museum built for great experiences,” and that is exactly what it is. The 13-story building will be the first place where all of the works of Edvard Munch will be displayed at all times. Prior to the construction of this building, no museum has been big enough for the complete collection.
After leaving all of his work to the country of Norway after his death in 1944, it is only right that Edvard Munch and his legacy be honored by opening up a state-of-the-art facility to hold his most precious artwork.
Edvard Munch is a legend of Norway. Born in 1863 in Adalsbruk, the painter quickly became internationally recognized for his distinct way of presenting scenes. His most popular paintings emphasize the staples of impressionism and help to remind us of the popular styles of art in previous eras. Emphasizing the perspective of the creator, expressionism is a great insight into the brain of any artist that chooses to create in the style.
Suffering from a hereditary mental illness for all of his life, he is quoted as saying “Without anxiety and illness I should have been like a ship without a rudder.” The quote gives some insight into not only his paintings and work but also his trials and tribulations. Life imitates art, no?
The new building features a sleek design with breathtaking views around Oslo seeing as it is located in the waterfront district. Designed by Juan Herreros and Jenz Richter, their vision was to make something that would define the skyline in an extremely eye-catching fashion, and that is exactly what they did. The new museum features all of the works of Edvard Munch, including classic pieces of art like “The Scream” and “The Madonna”, as well as featuring a full cafe and bar within the complex. It is something that tourists and locals alike will not want to pass up. Catch us first in line!
Although the museum is opening late, it will be well worth the wait. The complex was originally scheduled to be opened by the spring of 2020, however, it faced lots of setbacks including fires, insufficient security doors, and poor climate control systems. After perfecting all of these mistakes, the opening in 2021 will highlight the works and life of Munch.
The new museum is set to do wonders for tourism in Oslo, something that is crucial after the social and economic impacts of the Covid 19 pandemic. This boost in tourism will be essential to help things to return back to normal for the future. We at Stressless are excited to see not only these works in person, but also to see people enjoy these works together!
The impact of Munch’s work on design and other forms of art is monumental. Without great artists like this, society as a whole would be less creative. It is important to enjoy art of past times while realizing the influence it has on everything that we see as art today. After all, art is a safe space that works to connect us with other people. And that is something we value here at Stressless: creating spaces of undeniable comfort to share with those you love.
