The Milan Fare

At the beginning of April the world of interior design descends upon Milan to attend the annual fair ‘Salone del Mobile 2017’

This key furniture fare is one of the most exciting places  to see and hear about the future in furniture. In my role as interior stylist for Ekornes it is important for me to attend, so I’m knowledgable about future trends in leather colors and surfaces. It means that when you see these trends in consumer magazines next year, you can be sure that there is a Stressless® leather colour to match.

The Milan show never disappoints and this year was no exception! First of all we looked into the colours:

Colour

There is always plenty of colour, but the colour that dominated is a rich mid blue tone with hints of teal and sapphire.

This bold and rich blue was complimented and accessorised by spicy colours such as copper, green, mustard yellow and henna red.

Accessories

The accessories such as scatter cushions were a mixture of soft fabrics such as velvet mixed with firmer boucles and chenilles.

It was so nice to see how they use different fabrics on the pillows and in different colors just to create the home atmosphere you need.

To balance all these colours and textures, walls should be plain and in neutral colours – you can take inspiration from a Scandinavian palette here!

Surfaces

Gold and brass continue to dominate and work so beautifully with the rich blue that I mentioned before.

Wood is presented in either nut colors or natural colors such as a weathered or natural oak and the key surface this year was undoubtedly marble!

When I arrived back in Norway I took some of the copper and blue colour inspiration and turned my hand to a beautiful roomset in our own showroom. I hope this can inspire you too!StresslessEve_Paloma_Copper
