Stressless Style

Put some Stressless® spring in your step

The first day of spring is just around the corner. March 20 brings a new season that is brighter, and warmer, and one where we will see longer days. After a very cold and gray winter for many, spring is surely something most of us are looking forward to, for we can get more time outdoors allowing for extra sunshine. This is important for our health because sunlight is a great source of vitamin D, which protects our bones and teeth, boosts our immune system and our cardiovascular health. Additionally, research shows that being out in the sun can improve one’s mood significantly, for the better. Due to all those reasons, this spring we here at Stressless want to help you get outside to be the healthiest and happiest version of you! Here are our favorite five things to do outdoors this spring.

Grow a garden

Spring is the best time to start or add to your garden. You’ll want to clean up or install flower beds, as well as clear dead leaves and any other debris from the soil surface. Divide your perennials and plant them in fresh mulch. Give attention to trees and shrubs that need pruning. Spring is the recommended time to trim and prune summer-blooming trees and shrubs, as well – just before they start to grow. If you want to plant new trees, shrubs or plants, visit a nearby nursery where you can discuss options and seek advice from a professional. Being active in creating the landscape you want will get you plenty of vitamin D.

Have a park picnic

Enjoy the perfect picnic in your favorite park, or even in your backyard on a Sunday afternoon. Grab a large cozy blanket and pack a cooler full of deli meats and cheeses, along with some crackers and fresh fruit. Solo or with company, allow yourself to breathe in some fresh air and let go of stress. Catching some rays on a beautiful March or April afternoon while indulging in some delicious food may be the best way to spend time outdoors.

Freshen up your home

Spring is the perfect time to clean your home and make some upgrades, inside and out! Create the perfect sunroom by enclosing your back porch or update the room in your house with the most natural light to be as comfortable as you can make it. Doing so will ensure you can catch the rays, even when you can’t get outside. Stressless® sofas and recliners provide the most comfortable seating you can imagine, for any room in your home.

Attend your local farmer’s market

There are so many reasons why you should hit the farmer’s market. First, farmer’s markets sell meats, cheeses and eggs from animals raised without hormone or antibiotic treatment. The animals typically producing farmer’s market staples are fed fresh grass, without any pesticide treatment, where they are on a spacious farm rather than crammed in a warehouse or barn on some corporate property. Consuming animal products without antibiotics or pesticides not only promotes your health, but also the health of the animals producing such foods, making for a humane shopping experience. Second, shopping at the farmer’s market helps to support families in your community who depend on sales of their products to support themselves and their loved ones. Additionally, the environment benefits from your choice to shop at the farmer’s market, something that we at Stressless care deeply about as a company that focuses on sustainability. On average, food travels 1,500 miles to get to the grocery store, or on your plate at a restaurant. The amount of fossil fuels produced to carry food daily is substantial and therefore impacts pollution. If we all do our part shopping at local farmer’s markets, imagine the long term effect we can make. Lastly, visiting the farmer’s market allows you to do what we recommended in the first place, to get outside and soak up the vitamin D!

Bike for ice cream

Biking is an awesome way to get outside and see some sun. It is also a great form of exercise and even if you do not own a bike yourself, rentals are becoming more and more popular. Sure most of the bike apps offer e-bikes, but you can choose to pedal yourself. Biking increases cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility. It also improves joint mobility and decreases stress levels. Balance working in some fitness with a sweet treat. It’s been too chilly for ice cream in most spots, but now with the weather turning, why not enjoy some refreshing dessert? Find a nice route you can bike with friends to enjoy a cone of your choice.

These are all fun and active ways to enjoy sunshine as the season changes. We hope to put a little more spring in your step while partaking in whatever it is you are doing outside. Visit your nearest Stressless® dealer and experience the ultimate in comfort for yourself.
